Thoughts on the impact of a modern society on psychology

Disclaimer: this is just a more random collection of ideas I had (opinions stated on there are not to be confused with my own opinions) [Statements made should be taken as not very well supported, and just taken to develop your own perspective on society]

Intelligence is what develops the world to control us. However, I do not believe the modern citizen is being raised to use their intelligence effectively.

I feel that people(mindless childish fans) get so wrapped up in drama/hype that they cannot rationalize their emotions and make sober decisions. In fact, hype is a form of misleading people by invoking enthusiasm within them. Drama is an effective way of doing such.
Youtube picks out the things that will most mislead/hype people because these are the sorts of things that gain popularity. even if content providers do not intend to mislead/hype people, these forms of content will still get promoted by users.
Ex. celebrity drama hype, which is practically meaningless. Honestly, I don’t particularly get the whole idea of celebrities
Clickbait was a form of hype based around the things you see on youtube before watching the video: Name, thumbnail, view count, time published, and the name of the youtube account that produced the video
They would select something with and image and thumbnail that would lead to a form of curiosity/intrigue, leading people on into clicking on it. Knowing that so many others had clicked via the view count, and trusting that famous youtuber, you would begin watching that video. Since you clicked on it, you would add to the viewcount, increasing the number of people who would click on that video, without actually enjoying the video or even watching it for a long time. You also probably watched an ad located at the beginning of the video,
The viewer engagement rate is the rate at which someone watches through your content. there are tags on youtube, overused by clickbait youtubers(if I understand right, please cite), that help youtube know which content to show you with your search/watch history, taking into account for the rate mentioned above, to produce videos that you would enjoy to get you ‘hooked’ on youtube. Particularly children might be affected by this. They begin watching a service designed to draw people in, from a young age and then, what do you expect: they get drawn in by the hype and drama in the industry of youtube content, some unable to connect with others and may feel estranged from their fellow classmates
A more violent example of hype in action: ish13c, who once had someone post one short video supposedly ‘exposing him’ for a bunch of things he didn’t do and he get dozens of dislikes from people who watched this video
Humans are designed to ‘socialize'(something youtube replaces, but something children find very important), and designed to return to things they like.
And its not just youtube that is making content to pull you in and keep you, its basically EVERYTHING ON THE INTERNET….well, most profitable content such as: games, videos, amazon, subscriptions in general, online courses, You enjoying it equals its profitable
P.S. Make sure to keep a rational watch on your own decisions and choices
Near the end of cbc news it shows whats going to happen in the next episode, to bring people along to watch more. However, the viewers actually know what they are getting into. This is a clear separation between who you should trust, and who you shouldn’t trust for quality content. This is another form of ‘buyer’s trust’ and expectation.
P.P.S. I’m an avid reader…..Oh heavens above, I ran past the previous ‘P.S.’
In the past, people have bought books. People have started to read series, and then got stuck on a cliffhanger. They would go and buy the next book in the series because they could trust the author to provide a good reading experience from their past writings. They would read the story to get wrapped up in that world, forming a relationship, a connection, with the characters and then go back to that author for more, ending this relationship after a while when the series ended. I find reading enjoyable, and I don’t feel that videos require the same interaction as the turning of book pages does. This reflects itself in online content. However, with online content getting more and more interactive, with your brain processing this as interacting with them more and more, as you get to know this ‘youtuber’ as an individual, you form an unhealthy relationship (citations for days here please). Youtube videos just play, you are only required to watch, but not to think about it or really do anything. I will extrapolate that modern people who focus on youtube and are schooled by the modern school system, who have been drawn in by the marketing and kept by the hype, will have lower abilities to respond effectively to social interactions and effectively think/understand/comprehend(as opposed to just repeating words, like students seem to be doing). <That is a reasonable concern for the long term effects of the modern society and environment on children, young adults and adults, which schools and parents should/are(?) considering. As it is, student procrastination may rise.
When you play a (Free to play)game, you may be ‘building’ an account and investing your emotions into that game. You won’t want that account, that bit of effort, to go to waste. Maybe, because you value that bit of content, you may pay cash for game content. This supposedly pays the people who make the game, allowing for more game content to be produced. In fact, most companies establish in their terms and conditions that ‘your account’ is in fact in their hands. Whether this is good or bad, I really don’t know. You see, the game is something that they have produced, and is therefore ‘their content’. What they are selling to you for free is the right to use an interface for the program and register an account where you can invest your emotions into. I have personally seen people be angry and sad over a 9 month rollback of people’s efforts, including the developers/story designers, in a game I play. Honestly,

paying money may not actually make the content more enjoyable.(citation)
P.P.P.S. Please keep a rational view of your own decisions and choices….Oh, yes that was copy pasted, but I changed it!
a monopoly over individuals because of ‘brands you trust’;
because people have a ‘positive’ experience, they will go to that brand name, and that brand name semi-exclusively, leading to a near total control over the market(fast food industry) being in the hands of ‘a brand you can trust’.
The incidents that show you cannot trust them are different and surprising, leading to bad publicity and makes people overall think less of the business, yet they will still keep going back for the food they know.
Youtubers and other celebrities get ‘idolized’ by easily influenced youth
